Dan & Tish were always there when we needed them. Whether it was a phone call or driving us around to look at houses. Being a first time homebuyer, we were not familiar with the process at all. Mac-Assisted Home Buying

I finally got my husband to agree to move after eight years of trying. We had retired and didn’t need the city any more for jobs. With my Mac I could be anywhere, right? Gary took a vacation in July 2007 to visit his brothers and sister in northern Illinois. I stayed home with the dogs. He decided that moving to Illinois might be OK.
His brothers took him house hunting. I used the Internet to check out the properties that he liked and learn about Illinois. Yes, I learned they have winter. But, by then, Gary had found a house and property the car crazy family liked. I could see why. My Mac showed the listing and the picture was of a 40' x 60' shop. No house in sight. He assured me there was a house, too. And a three-car garage!
The real estate agent was not very sure how to use email, but received help from another worker in his agency. From 2,000 miles away, the agent would email documents for us to sign. We printed them, signed them, scanned them back in, and thanks to Apple building in a PDF routine on the print function, I could turn the signed docs into PDFs to email back to the agent. And to the bank, who were quite adept at receiving docs by email. We bought the house, and got a bridge loan, all by email.
Now that we had a place in Illinois, we could start packing up 25 years of stuff to move. What a job. I used the Mac to research moving van rentals, moving companies, advice on packing, cost estimates for moving all Gary's vehicles, and the like.
We found a Sacramento real estate agent by asking a title company for a recommendation. That agent may be good at the final details, but she was not able to sell our house in six months. The local banker here in Illinois suggested finding a husband-wife team as he'd had luck before with a couple. You pay the same percentage but have two people working for you. I could not find a real estate \"couple\" with a Google search.
I decided to post a request on the MacNexus website for help in finding an agent. After the posting, I happened to see the MacNexus directory function and decided just to try entering \"real estate\" into the profile area. Sure enough, a member profile came up with an agent. Lo, and behold, it was Dan AND Tish Abraham, long-time members, who are a COUPLE of real estate agents! Plus I wouldn’t have to teach them how to make a PDF to email!
I sent off several emails asking if anyone knew the Abrahams. Gail McGovern said they had volunteered for the club when she was putting on some training. They did their jobs well and were pleasant. Others agreed. I call that a good recommendation. I checked their website (www.danandtish.com ) and found interesting material on how to choose an agent. Wish I'd seen that before! So I signed on with Dan and Tish to try to sell my poor house. It's a good house. How could it still be for sale after six months?

The first thing Dan had to do was calm me down about the state of Sacramento real estate and that it would all work out. \"Diana: Have faith.\" We did that first meeting with a video chat and used iChat several times to hash over stuff. It really was more reassuring to see Dan and Tish than to just discuss by phone or email.
Seven days later, we had a buyer and a signed contract. One month later, the Sacramento house was no longer ours. Thank you, Dan and Tish!
We had to go into the bank here to get one document notarized, but other than that, my trusty Mac and Epson scanner turned our signed documents involving a mega-money house contract, IRS sworn statements, and legal disclosure forms into email, and shuttled documents back and forth, 2000 miles from Sacramento to rural Illinois. Still amazes me how the technology allowed me to buy a house and sell a house without physically being there.
